WerkSaam Brings Structure and Continuity to Cybersecurity with OneXillium

The existing partnership fostered trust and ensured direct communication. During an initial meeting, OneXillium’s CISO services were discussed—exactly what was needed at that time.

In doing so, OneXillium did not focus solely on filling the position; rather, it first asked the key question: What role should the CISO play here, and what responsibilities come with that role?

Based on that, it was decided to temporarily take over the role entirely and, at the same time, establish a solid foundation so that a future CISO could seamlessly take over.

Digitization and information security were already on WerkSaam’s agenda. In addition, there was already a partnership with OneXillium regarding the digital mailroom, in which incoming mail for multiple municipalities is scanned centrally and distributed via digital workflows to the appropriate municipalities and departments. This solution is now being migrated to OneXillium’s Dutch cloud.

That foundation proved valuable at an unexpected moment. When WerkSaam’s CISO left, the question immediately arose as to how continuity and oversight of cybersecurity could be maintained.

Recruiting a new CISO takes time. At the same time, the organization cannot afford to come to a standstill in this area.

The collaboration began by establishing an overview. Through a baseline assessment and a gap analysis, we gained insight into where WerkSaam stood in terms of cybersecurity and what steps were needed.

Building on that foundation, structure was established for priorities, policies, and decision-making. OneXillium’s CISO played an active role in this process within the organization and took overall responsibility. At the same time, advice was provided on how to design the IT environment for the future, ensuring that cybersecurity became an integral part of broader technological decisions.

This took concrete form during the migration to a new IT provider. OneXillium’s CISO provided guidance on key security issues and ensured alignment between technology and security. As a result, cybersecurity remained assured throughout a process that had a major impact on the organization, without losing sight of the overall direction.

Where there had previously been fragmentation and uncertainty, clarity and direction emerged in a short period of time. WerkSaam gained a clear understanding of the current state of cybersecurity and knew which actions took priority. Decision-making became more concrete, and policies became easier to implement.

Cybersecurity thus ceased to be an abstract topic and became a tangible and manageable component of the organization.

The primary goal was to bridge the period without a CISO. That goal was achieved.

Within six months, WerkSaam found a new CISO. OneXillium’s role then shifted to carefully transferring knowledge and guiding the onboarding process. This allows the new CISO to step into an environment where the foundation is already in place and the priorities are clear.

In addition to governance and structure, WerkSaam places a strong emphasis on increasing security awareness within the organization. To this end, the company has chosen OneXillium’s awareness program, with its up-to-date and constantly evolving content seen as a key value-added feature. Topics such as AI are playing an increasingly important role in this program.

WerkSaam has now also developed its own AI policy. Employees are provided with guidelines for using AI safely and responsibly in their daily work. This makes the organization a leader in the region.

With a clear structure, a defined CISO role, and a concrete roadmap, WerkSaam can continue to build its digital future.

The focus is on further developing cybersecurity policies, systematically ensuring awareness, and responsibly implementing new technologies such as AI.
